DEEP & SOULFUL HOUSE (December 2010)

Reviewed by  Alan O‘Malley

Reelsoul - Spend My Life  (Sole Channel Music )

End of year release, and one i know, has been highly anticipated from many of you fans of Sole Channel Music. It's been another hectic year for the label and this time they share with you the vocal talents of label resident DJ, producer, musician, and now turned singer Will 'Reelsoul' Rodriguez. Will doesn't disappoint and delivers an exceptional vocal performance along with his now crafted bumpy sound. A remix for all dancefloor moments from Sted-E & Hybrid Heights, George Vibe, Jerry Flores, alongside the original and instrumental, watch out for more solo projects from 'Reelsoul' in 2011 !

Matthew Bandy - Somewhere Between Here & There EP (Papa)

Since moving to the UK in 2008 from the US, Matthew Bandy as been making a real name for himself both in London and the UK underground house scene. He is no stranger to production having his own label Limestone Recordings. Here Matt, drops his debut EP on Papa, working two vocal tracks with London Soul man Renn alongside gospel-infused Kentucky native Adrianne Archie, and one instrumental. I'm sure this won't be the last time we see Matthew Bandy's name appear on a Papa release.

Demarkus Lewis - Mental Notes LP (Grin Music)

Hailing from Dallas, Demarkus is another producer who up sticks and headed over to London, to contuine and develop his knowlegde and love of underground dance music. Having released over 100 singles and countless remixes during the last 10 years, this is his first debut full length album.

There is something here for everyone who enjoys house music whether it be the soulful male vocal from Demetrius Price in the new album version of 'Truth'; the seriously deep vibe created for Marissa Guzman's stellar cut 'Time to Go'; the afro beat killer with EMAN on 'Behind Closed Doors' or even the loop mode excursion with 'Trackin'.

DJ Garphie & The Desolate One feat. Marie Tweek - Fight Back (Omni Music Solutions)

As we approch the end of 2010, i really had to include a record which i think didn't get the true recognition it fully deserved. Initially scheduled for release in 2009, "Fight Back" was launched in observation of the 1969 Stonewall Riots of New York City. Bournemouth based producer DJ Garphie at the helm vocals by Marie Tweek of 'The Rurals' fame, Mike Dunn also on remix duty, one of the releases of the year for me. Love Yourself !!! Fight Back !!

Soul Renegades - Common Occupation EP (Restless Soul Music)

Soul Renegades are two producers from Edinburgh, Craig Smith and Ricky Reid, you may well remember there debut release on Restless Soul last year, with 'Thank You' & 'Oh Yeah'. This time they up the heat, and push there trademark sound even further.  Ricky takes vocal duty on three of the tracks, while Craig looks after those searing beats. My pick of the EP is 'Kiss The World' which has a killer spoken word, potential to erupt any dancefloor over the festive season. Watch out for Soul Renegades these boys mean business for 2011 !! 5/5
