DEEP & TECH HOUSE (July 2011)

Various Artists – House Bound – Drop Music2

Sometimes samplers can be a bit hit and miss but here über established label Drop Music show how it should be done properly with three parts and 9 separate artists. As always with Drop Music the emphasis is firmly on Underground House mixing up established artists alongside some of the best up and coming talent. The results are simply fantastic creating something for everyone. For me the
stand out tracks are “Boom” by Asad Rizvi, “Do it again” by label bosses Inland Knights and “De Ja Vu” by Kinky Movement. Other artists featuring are The Soundiggers, Giom, Phil Weeks, Larry Fives, Freaky Behaviour and Robert Boogert. Seek and buy.

Jonn Hawley – Voice Inside EP – Large Music

Jonn Hawley is someone I have been following and supporting for a long time.  His early Sound Navigators releases alongside Heather Doble were always a main stay in my sets but recently releases have been sparse.   Here Jonn releases four solid tracks, “The Get Down” is a deep bumpin adventure while the title track “Voice Inside” is a nice deep track with a cool male vocal and skippy percussion.  “For You” slows the place slightly with an uplifting female vocal and “That Thing” finishes off the package nicely with a more traditional House feel.  Overall this is a very solid package that will get support from many a decent DJ.

Robert Rodriguez – Thinking Of You EP - Fina

Sitting firmly between Nu School disco vibes and classic Deep House this marks release number three for Fina.  “I Got” is a funky bassline driven piece of disco music while “I keep thinking of you” is a very nice Deep House track with a luscious vocal.  This one in particular has been getting support from lots of the usual suspects and is arguably the one that stands out on the release.  The final track is “Fall Night” which is all about the groove before the repetitive vocal kicks in.  A nice release that I’m sure many will love.

Jemille Bailey – Getting Heavy – Sound Black

Sound Black comes back hard and heavy for its second vinyl release with Santa Monica based artist Jemille Bailey.  The package contains four mixes; the original of “Getting Heavy” is a slow mo groovy deep disco monster with supreme vocals.  Jordan Fields turns in a more Chicago influenced re-edit while Dakini9 opt for a darker take on the original.  The final mix comes courtesy of up and coming starlet Nick Turner who takes this release up a notch.  A nice release from a very promising label taking the risk or pressing vinyl, go support!

Honey Dijon & Sebastian Manuel – Tonite – Get Up Recordings

New York label Get Up Recordings bring together a couple of natives for its third release.  The release boasts two takes on the title track “Tonight”.  The original mix is a nice Tech House funk fuelled monster that builds nicely with a nice vocal hook that more than gives a nod to the classic New York sounds of clubs such as Twilo or Limelight.   The second mix comes from Nonfiction who jack up their version while keeping all the original elements for an interesting second take.  This is a very solid DJ tool that is worth checking out.
